Group Therapy
What to expect:
Each group consists of its own format. For example some groups may meet once a week for an hour for six weeks, and other groups may meet twice for two hours.
Similarly, each group focuses on a specific theme or topic. Previous group topics have been navigating grief during the holidays, and navigating family dynamics.
Regardless of the topic or format, you can expect a safe and open environment.
Like individual therapy, you may complete a free 15 minute consultation prior to the group. This is to help discern if this is the right group for your needs. You’ll have the opportunity to share what brought you to group therapy and what you hope to achieve. This is also an excellent time for you to ask any questions about the group process.
Your group facilitator will clearly communicate what you can expect from the group, including topics and meeting outline. Group therapy is an interactive experience, and you’ll be encouraged to participate at your comfort level. Each session builds on the last, with ongoing discussions, insights, and support.
Group therapy is a transformative process.
While some individuals experience growth and relief quickly, others may take longer to reach their desired outcomes. Together, we’ll assess your needs and set goals that align with your personal journey.
In group therapy, your therapist will guide the discussions using evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, and experiential exercises. The group setting fosters mutual support, providing opportunities to gain perspective, build new coping skills, and challenge old patterns:
